European ace Andreas Bakkerud will join Ken Block to form a two-car Supercar team in this season’s FIA World Rallycross Championship.
The Norwegian will compete for the Hoonigan Racing Division which follows the previously announced news that Block will commit to the full championship with extra backing from Ford Performance.
Bakkerud ran for Ford Olsbergs MSE last year to finish fourth in the standings which was highlighted by a win in Italy.
“I’m really excited about the opportunity to race alongside Ken and his team that happens to be one of the best motorsport teams in the world,” Bakkerud said.
The European Rallycross Super 1600 champion in 2011 and 2012 is excited about the #13 Ford he will campaign.
“Ford Performance and M-Sport are building us one of the best cars to ever compete in rallycross.”
“I think that working with Ken and his team in 2016 is really going to help me elevate my driving even further, plus I’ve always admired the way they handle exposing and marketing themselves both on and off event.”
Block said that it was an easy decision to choose Bakkerud when he was plotting to expand his team.
“He’s proven that he can win races,” Block said.
“He’s also got experience racing the Ford Fiesta ST chassis the last few seasons, which is important.
“I’m confident that with him on my team, we will be strong contenders for the 2016 FIA World Rallycross Championship.”
The 12-round championship starts at Montalegre, Portugal from April 16-17.
